Paintball Tactics in One Word

The one word for paintball tactics is DOMINATION.

When you get out on the field you want to dominate the field. You can’t do it alone, you will need your team to do it. You can make sure that you are ready by being familiar with the game, the field, and your team. This will make it easier to decide which tactics to use to successfully dominate a paintball field.

Paintball tactics are the skills and maneuvers you use to make as many hits as you can and avoid as many hits as you can. Some of the tactics that can be used are listed below.

STRUCTURES, BUNKERS, AND COVER

To be able to use structures and covers to shield yourself from being hit by paintballs you will need to stand, couch, or take any position needed. Look around, not over to see where your teammate and your opponent are located. Glance quickly, return behind cover and repeat if needed. Move around the field. If a teammate is near, you can cover each other as you move from structure to structure. Be sure your rear and your gear are behind the cover.

SHOOTING

Make as accurate of a shot as you can. Shoot off three rounds at a time when the target is in sight to increase the chances of a hit. This will help compensate for any factors that cause inaccurate shots and it will often surprise your enemy. Don’t fear the hit. It has to be very close to cause pain or bruising. Proper clothing will absorb some of the impact. Keep your finger on the trigger and be ready to shoot if an opponent is able to get close to you. If you have not been detected, take a breath, relax, and then take the shot so you can make it count.

CRAWLING AND RUNNING

If you can be seen, run. When running, move fast and zigzag. If you can, have a teammate cover you, then you can cover your teammate. If you can move without detection, crawling will often allow you to get closer to your opponent that running towards the bunker next to them. Plan your movement from one bunker to another.

SMELL, LOOK, AND LISTEN

You may not always see your opponent, but you might be get a whiff of his or her deodorant or hear breathing, especially if you opponent just ran. Use an odor free deodorant on the field and save the cologne for when you go out. Your opponent shouldn’t be alerted to your presence by your scent. Keep your eyes open for movement when on a field that camouflage clothing allows you and your teammates to blend into the environment.

When you are off the field around the water jug, listen to what the shooters are saying about what worked out on the field and what didn’t. Don’t be afraid to ask some questions about tactics so you can learn a little faster. Being skilled at paintball tactics so you can dominate the field will take time and practice, but you will be able to in no time.
